Days 182 and 183: This is it. The final one.

So...the 6-Month Gaming Challenge is coming to an end.  As I write this, there are only three hours until 2013 ends.  This has been a great six months.  I started it having only finished one game since 2013 began, and now I have finished 50 games this year.  I really think that if I hadn't started this blog, I wouldn't have been able to do half that amount.

I think I was too confident when I started.  I claimed I would finish every game in my collection in six months.  That right there would only have been possible if I were to finish two games per day on average.  And considering most of the games I have are RPGs, it was pretty much a sure thing that I was going to fail.  I didn't see that six months ago.

I had so much fun playing all of these games and writing about the journeys I took in the games.  And the opportunities I have been given since starting it are like the icing on the cake.  I don't think I would have been given the chance to write for a gaming website had I not had this blog as a writing example.  And I probably would not have had the chance to get new games and play them when I did.  I know I would not have gotten a copy of Grand Theft Auto V when I did and be able to write about its gameplay.

Anyway, before I end this final blog entry, I will tell you about the 51st game I finished.  Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.  Today I was determined to finish the game, especially after seeing how close I was to the final battle.  It was really easy once I got started.  And I had online maps nearby so I could figure out the mazes quickly.  The mini-bosses in Doom Castle were similar to those I fought throughout the game.  And the final battle didn't take as much time as I had thought it would.  I wasn't expecting the different forms at all.  I spammed Flare attacks against the Dark King, while I had Phoebe on Auto.

The ending was so nice.  I liked how every person who played a big part in the game came to meet my character at the end to see him off.  It was a really great way for a game to end.  It only left one question in my mind when I saw "The End" at the bottom of the screen, and that was "What's next?"  I wanted to go on the journey with my character (who I named Michael), and see where he goes on the ship.  I think he and Tristam would definitely find some great treasure and cause a fair amount of mischief along the way.

Anyway, I finished it just in time.  I wouldn't have wanted to not finish it before midnight.  Because normally on New Year's Eve, I go through and delete all of the save files of all of the games I own.  It's the only tradition I have done consistently for years.  It allows me to start fresh with the journeys; and in a way, play as if I've never played the games before.  It's also something I do that tends to cause me pain.  That's because I almost always have a game that I really want to continue playing, but I follow the tradition strictly.  This year was no different.  I wanted to continue playing Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, but it was deleted with the rest of them.  Anyway, after I delete everything, I make a list of all the games I own; then let a random number generator choose what game I play first at the beginning of the year.  I can never choose.

Well, that's all for this final blog entry.  Before I type the final catchphrase, I want to say that I will have another blog for 2014 and beyond.  I will be writing what I'm playing, as well as detailed reviews, some gaming news, and other little gaming tidbits.  I will do my best to keep it updated with some consistency, but I know that I won't be able to do it daily.  With how my schedule is at the moment, updating daily makes me so exhausted.  So, be sure to check out the new blog

I am calling it 3³ Gaming because I will be turning 27 this Friday.  And since 3³ equals 27, it fits perfectly.

So, that's everything I have to say.  For the coming day, and every day after that, enjoy the games you play!

Days 180 & 181: Almost done.

Today I played Ni No Kuni for the majority of the day.  I reached the point of the game I stopped playing, and passed that point during the session.  So, now the party is on a boat in the ocean.  That's where I last saved the game.  Anyway, I am trying to stick the same familiars, and the best ones for the party members.  I am also only using the preferred treats for the familiars as well.

And actually, that's about it for this entry.  I only played on Saturday, because Friday I slept from when I came home to 3am Saturday morning.  I was really tired.

That's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Days 178 and 179: End in Sight.

So, I know I have only been updating every other day lately.  I just haven't been playing enough to post about any of it.  I have been working too much with what I do to set aside time for gaming.  In a way, I am somewhat glad that the blog is ending in a few days.  But with how things are currently, I can't be playing all day.  Though that is what I would love to do on these cold winter days.

I am at Mount Gale in Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.  I was going to continue with it and try to finish that section, but I didn't want to deal with the puzzles.  But I have been told that I am almost finished, so that's good.

I started playing Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core today.  I have just been working on the side quests in order to level up Zack and the materia I have.  I am not sure about the story anymore.

And I have saved the brokenhearted Esther in No No Kuni.  Now, she, her father, Mr. Drippy, and Oliver are on their way to the Great Sage to perform the Trials.

So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 177: Christmas Eve gaming.

I worked some more on Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest today.  I managed to finish the Giant Tree area.  I can't believe I am nearly finished with the game.  I stopped after finishing that one area, because it took me a long time to finish it.  I will continue tomorrow.

I also played more Ni No Kuni today.  I saved the Cat King, and even went through the Golden Grove.  Now I am one step closer to Al Mamoom and my meeting with a Sage.

Well, I hope that Santa brings you what you desire, and that the games you play tomorrow are fun!  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Days 175 and 176: Closing in on the End

This time next week, I will be making my final entry in this blog.  My how the time does fly by.

Anyway, for a couple days now, I have been playing Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.  A friend I talk to said that she hasn't played it, and that made me want to try and finish it.  But since I had deleted the save file a long time ago, I started a new one.

Right now in the game, I am trying to save the Cat King.

In other games, I haven't made much progress.  That's normal for me, really.  And after six months, you all should be used to that.

However, in Mystic Quest, I am finally in the fourth region of the planet.  Currently, I am in a giant tree trying to rid it of the monsters inside.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 174: Either way...

Today I played a lot of Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.  I believe I am almost to where the third crystal is, though I am not completely sure.  Either way, I think I will at least get it tomorrow.  I am getting help on the game as well.  That's good because I don't want to be fumbling around when there are only ten days left in the challenge.  I want to finish as many games as possible, and I can't do that if I'm stuck in some volcano.

I also managed to get out of the cave I was in in Star Ocean: First Departure.  I think I may have met a new character that will join the party, but again, I am not sure.  Either way, I am glad to be out of that cave.  Now, I think the group of Roddick, Elia, and Cyuss will be going to Astral.  And I don't know about the girl that thinks she's a bird, who acts a lot like a cat.  She may join later on, she may not.

Well, that's all for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Days 172 & 173: It's a Mystic(al) Quest

The game I spent the most time playing today was Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.  I am finally finished with saving the second crystal.  I thought I would never get out of the Ice Pyramid.  Anyway, I did, and I am finally on my way to the next area.

I have also spent a little time with Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.  And by little, I mean little.  I play until I get to the next save point, then stop.  The Agrabah level is hard to finish.  The enemies are very difficult to defeat.

And in Star Ocean: First Departure, I am also going from Save Point to Save Point.  I came to a cave ill-prepared, and I am paying for it.  After every battle, one party member is either poisoned or dead.  And I have no items to change that.  And it's because of my own greed I guess, because I have all this money and I haven't spent any of it.

Well, that's all for now.  I wrote an article today over at http://www.enixorigin.com so be sure to check it and all of my other articles there out!  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Days 170 & 171: Final Fantasy turns 26

Yay! Final Fantasy turns 26 today!  And what did I do to celebrate?  Not play Final Fantasy games, that's for sure.  And really, that sucks!  A lot!  But the good thing, if you call it that, is that for the next 16 days, I and my favorite video game series are the same age!  So, Yay!

No, I didn't play anything yesterday, and I didn't much of anything today.  I was just really busy yesterday, and never got around to it.  And then today I cut my finger really bad, and playing video games didn't ease the pain.  I did watch the kid my brother was taking care of play some Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012).  Other than that, I didn't play anything.

Well, unfortunately, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 169: Winding Down

I didn't actually play much today.  I made some progress in Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest and Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.  That's about it.

I guess this entry is going for a gloomy tone.  As you know the end of this month is fast approaching, and that also means that the end of this 6-Month gaming challenge is coming to an end.  I guess I am rambling on about what will happen in a couple weeks.  As much as I want to make December go on for a few more months so I can finish more games in that time, I know I can't.

The thought has crossed my mind to just change the title and extend the blog, but that goes against my nature.  If I am going to fail, I don't want to make it so it isn't a failure.  I want to own up to it and fail.  And I thought that maybe I'll just start a new blog.  It is high on my list to do that, but I don't think I will make it a daily update blog.  Some days I just don't do much gaming.  And then the thought has also crossed my mind to just stick to writing articles for EnixOrigin.

No matter what I do, I will be sure to tell you all beforehand.  Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 168: Spreadsheets

Today I began what I am calling "my research into who the best players are in osu!" game.  I played some osu!mania online matches, and recorded how well my opponents did compared my performances.  Of the 37 players I went up against in 18 matches, only 13 ended up with a result that was better than mine.  My average result in the matches was second place.

What I did was use myself as the base, or zero.  If I received third place in a song, the player that received second place would get 1 point, the winner would get 2 points.  The player in 4th Place would get -1 point, 5th would get -2, and so on.  Then, I averaged the result of all the songs for each player I went up against.  Only 13 ended up with a positive score.

I am trying to find out if I will be good enough to compete in an osu!mania tournament. It is the one mode of the game that I am really good at, so I just want to be sure I am ready.  I don't want what happened yesterday to happen at the one mode that I actually rank a respectable place at.

I also have been playing Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest today.  I am almost to where the Water Crystal is in the game.  I like the game so far.  I think the only thing I don't like right now is that the enemies don't leave a lot of GP behind when I defeat them.  I like to have plenty of items, and I can't get them when I only receive 18 GP per battle.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 167: 2nd Place

I woke up at 9:20am this morning. It's a good thing too, because I went to check on any updates for the Osu! Challengers Tournament and found out that I read the time wrong for my match. I thought it said 3pm my time, especially since the tournament organizer is in the same timezone as I am. But it was 3pm UTC, which is 10am Eastern Standard Time. So I didn't get to practice at all for the tournament, because I had to report in the tournament room. It was then that I was told that my training partner had pulled out of the competition, thus giving me a 25% chance of winning. As the time kept ticking, only one other player in my level arrived. The two Argentinian players that had also signed up never showed up. So, now I had a 50% chance to win.

But I lost. I only scored 42 of the 49 points maximum for the maps. The other player was just better than I was. I didn't practice nearly enough. My problem was that I had trouble transition from the spins to the lines. I couldn't find where the cursor was located after the spin, and then I would miss a note and thus break the combo. I came close to winning a couple of the maps, but I couldn't pull through.

Oh well. I am not an osu!standard player anyway. I entered just to see how well I could do. I came in second place in an originally 6-player tournament. One player switched to a different level, and three didn't show up. So, though I don't have any tangible proof of my 2nd place finish, I know that I was able to come in 2nd Place in a tournament.

For details on the songs chosen and my performance, click here.

Most of this evening I spent playing Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.  It's a nice game so far.  I have already recovered one of the four crystals.  I think I will play it some more after I post this.

Also, I had no idea that there were Sailor Moon video games on the Super Nintendo.  This was news to me!

Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 166: Pre-game jitters!

So, tomorrow is the Osu! Challengers Tournament.  This time tomorrow I will either be a winner, or someone who should stick to osu!mania mode.  I am getting nervous.  I didn't practice as much as I wanted to.  My plan is to practice some tomorrow morning before the tournament.  I am hoping that the songs that are chosen to be played are ones that I am better at than the ones I am not as good at playing.  Here's the song list.

Acchi Kocchi (Acchi Kocchi Cast) – Acchi de Kocchi de (TV Size) [Baka~!]
Touhou (Amane) – Melt in the sky [Easy]
Newgrounds (Blackhole) – Lagomorphic [Easy]
BMS (Cres) – End Time [Beginner]
DECO*27 feat. Marina – Aimai Elegy [Easy]
REFLEC BEAT limelight (DJ YOSHITAKA) – VALLIS-NERIA [Basic]*
Vocaloid (dokiro feat. Hatsune Miku) – Paradise Cage [Impossiblexu’s Easy]
Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas – Jump Around [Easy]
Vocaloid (GUMI) – PANDA HERO [Easy]
Deco*27 (Hatsune Miku) – Ai Kotoba
Bibuko (Hatsune Miku) – Ohigan FuzzyClap [Easy]
Kurousa-P (Hatsune Miku) – Senbonzakura (Short Ver.) [Easy]
Touhou (IOSYS) – Cirno’s Perfect Math Class [Easy]
Lindsey Stirling – Electric Daisy Violin [Easy]
Peter Lambert – osu! Tutorial [Rookie Gameplay]

I have spent the most time with the first four and the last two, and have been pretty consistent with my scores.  So I should be fine as long those songs are chosen.  But it is a random draw, so there's a chance that the only songs chosen are ones I am not as proficient with.

Anyway, that is the main thing on my gaming plate right now.  As for Star Ocean: First Departure and Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded, I didn't play them much after the last entry.  I do now have 12 of the 16 inklings in Wonderland.  I just can't seem to find those last four inklings.

Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 165: Lots of Pain, but none in the game.

I am posting this entry in between sleeping sessions.  I hurt my back walking from where I work to my father's truck, and I have been sleeping away the pain.  That being said, I have done some gaming to keep my mind off of how much my back hurts right now.

First, in Star Ocean: First Departure, I did some level grinding.  I guess that would be the technical term for it, considering what I was actually doing was going to all of the towns I had been to previously to find out if I missed anything.  I learned that I think I'm supposed to be fighting some pirates.  Where this fight takes place, I don't know.  But that's the gist of it so far.

And in Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, I have finished the first two worlds, Destiny Islands and Traverse Town.  Now, I am in Wonderland looking for Alice's memories, so she can tell me where the keyhole is.  I am getting proficient in the ability converting system (or whatever it's called).  And the stats system is very similar to that of Final Fantasy X, and I like it.

Anyway, I should end this here and go back to sleep.  If things are the same tomorrow pain-wise, I may spend the whole day playing video games.  That's something to look forward to.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 164: An Ocean of Stars

I am currently lost and have no idea what to do in my playthrough of Star Ocean: First Departure.  I have the feeling I have to get on a boat somewhere considering I am in Portmith, but I don't know where they are.  It's quite possible that I have to go through that Abandoned Mine in Mt. Metorx, however, I am not sure I am at all equipped to adventure in there.  I went in there once before, and was destroyed within 15 seconds.  I have gotten some better equipment since that first encounter with the mine, but the random battle encounters in this game are low.  There hasn't been many battles since then, so Roddick and party haven't gotten much stronger.

Anyway, this is going to be a short entry, because it was the only game I played today.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 163: Fallout, Fall down, Fall done!

I finally finished the main story of Fallout 3.  I managed to do it in only three tries.  The first try was when the game froze as Fawkes and I were heading back to the Citadel after leaving Vault 106.  The only reason we stopped there was because it was directly in our way as we were going back to the Citadel.  The second time I ended up dying, because I got so far ahead of the giant robot that it was only me, Fawkes, and Sentinel Lyons fighting the Enclave.  I knew something was really wrong when Lyons disappeared.  And it was then that I died.

But the third time, I managed to save the world.  Or rather, Fawkes saved the world, since it was he that risked his life to power the purifier.  As much as I want to say how I liked how the game ended, I didn't like how it made me look like the bad guy because I asked Fawkes to go in and turn on the purifier.  If Lyons or I had went in there, we would have died.  But if Fawkes went in, he would most likely live because of his immunity to radiation.  I wanted the most amount of people to live in this situation, and that would only happen if he went in.  Maybe, I don't know.

Anyway, if I were to ever do another big playthrough of this game, I think I'll just be a real mean person in the game.  Blow up Megaton, steal from wastelanders, poison the water, all the bad things.

The osu! tournament I entered is only five days away.  I am really glad that there are so few people competing in my match.  I don't think I'd like competing against all of the people that are in the Expert tournament.  There are so many of them, and they play osu! like all the time.

I have been playing Star Ocean: First Departure ever since finishing Fallout 3.  I am already at the part of the game when Cyuus joins the party.  I like the story so far.  I wish I knew more about it, but I am still at the beginning of the game, or that's what it feels like.  If the movie gallery is any indication, I am 4/7ths of the way finished in the game.  I really hope I am not nearly done with the game.  Though I wouldn't be surprised considering Birth By Sleep was also a short game.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Michael, aka me3lingual, aka 情郎

Day 162: Playing in the cold.

It is really cold in my room, hence I have been playing more handheld games while sitting by the fire.  Games like Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and Star Ocean: First Departure have been in my hands a lot today.  But today, I got some blankets out and played Fallout 3 all bundled up while sitting on the floor.  I am almost finished with the main story.  I can almost taste those purified waters.

And really, that was the bulk of my day.  Sitting in a bunch of blankets while playing Fallout 3.  I am really considering moving my PS3 to another television in my house.  Since my room is on the other side of the house away from the fire, I don't spend as much time in there during the cold months.  I even sleep by the fire because it is too cold to sleep in my room.

Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 161: Unsettled Sleep

Shortly after settling down by the fire last night, I finished Birth By Sleep.  Here's the endgame stats I wrote down after finishing

Game Mode - Beginner
Report Completion - 58%
Enemies Defeated - 1725
Most Used Command - Curaga - 35x
Most Used Command Style - Critical Impact - 16x
Most Used D-Link - Aqua - 3x
Play Time - 12:57:01

It was a nice game.  I really liked it, despite it being shorter than other games.  I am going to count it complete for the challenge, bringing the total of complete games to 50 games!  That brings the completion percentage to 15.43%.  It's almost to where I predicted it would be at the beginning of the challenge (25%).  So, it's quite possible that I will get there before the year ends.

And one game that will be making it one step closer to that goal is Fallout 3.  I am now only four quests away from finishing the main story, and completing the game.  I will be so glad when I put Fallout 3 away for a while.  The father character is so annoying.

And finally tonight, in Final Fantasy VI, the party of Sabin and Shadow met up with Cyan and escaped from Doma Castle.  Now they are teamed up with ?????? (a ghost) on the Phantom Train in the woods.  I was told this evening that you can defeat the boss of this area by simply throwing a Phoenix Down at it.  I am definitely going to try that when I reach the Boss.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 160: Back in the Swing of things.

So, I am at the final battle in Birth By Sleep.  I was very surprised to actually get there, because I had only been playing the game for a total of eleven hours.  Most RPGs take me 40+ hours, so reaching the final battle so soon was a new experience for me.

I would probably be finished with the game if my PSP's battery didn't die on me.  I had one-half of one life bar left on Xehanort when it gave out.  I nearly cried because I was so close, and had the victory taken from me.  Oh well, I will just have to do it once the battery is done charging.

I also got some time in on Fallout 3.  I finally caught up to my character's father.  And just because I don't like him, I kept shooting him.  It wasn't fair, because I wanted him dead, but he came back to life seconds after he died.  Eventually, I stopped shooting and stopped playing the game.

And in Final Fantasy VI, the party has branched off into three parts.  I chose to go with Sabin first.  He met Shadow and has him as a party member now.  Currently, I am at the Empire's Camp in Doma.

Anyway, the plan for tomorrow is to finish Birth By Sleep.  After that, maybe Final Fantasy VI, maybe Fallout 3.  If I can finish the main story line of Fallout 3 tomorrow as well as Birth By Sleep, I will be so happy.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 158: Downpour

This will be a short update.

In Birth By Sleep, I am at Olympus Coliseum.  I don't know what will happen next.

In Final Fantasy VI, Edgar, Sabin, TERRA, and BANON are in a cave at the save point that the raft they were riding landed at.  Locke is on his way back to South Figaro to slow down the Empire's forces from reaching the Returners' hideout.

Now, I am going back to sleep.  Today was a good day, but turned into a bad day when a storm came up suddenly, and made working almost impossible.  I have already slept ten hours since I got back home, but I feel I could sleep ten or fifteen more.

So, that's all from me for now.   For the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 157: It feels like Springtime outside!

Today I played more Birth By Sleep.  Currently, I just finished the race against the Unversed and Captain Dark in DisneyTown.  It was a nice change of pace from the fighting and battles in the other worlds.  I especially like the Ice Cream Beat minigame.  The fruit one isn't bad either.

The day of the osu! Tournament is coming closer and closer.  The new news on my specific tournament is that there are only 5 players left.  One of them move to the Advanced level.  He chose to do it, so if wants to have less of a chance to win, then more power to him.  I don't play well enough to justify my current rank, so I am happy with being in the Beginner Tournament.  And anyway, I will probably stop playing osu!standard once the tournament is over.  It's way too hard for me to play exclusively.

I didn't play Final Fantasy VI at all today.  I meant to, but I didn't get around to it.  I will play after this entry is posted.

Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Michael, aka me3lingual, aka 情郎

Day 156: I will not read the story! I will not spoil it!

The story of Birth By Sleep is starting to get really good.  I am tempted to scroll through the messages of a Skype group chat I am in to read what happens in the game.  Whenever the game and its story would come up, the others would be nice enough to ask me to not read the messages because it would spoil the game for me.  They like the game, and want my first time playing it to be great.  And it is great and I want to know what happens.  But I must resist.

Just like how I must resist watching the videos on YouTube of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.  The videos are taking over YouTube, what with the Japanese version being out and all.  I can resist the urge.

One way to do that is by actually playing the game more.  I am getting really proficient with the Ability Melding system.  I have several of the 2nd-tier magic spells, and quite a few elemental physical attacks.  I even have Curaga already.  And all of those have given me auto-abilities as well.

And then I can always continue playing Final Fantasy VI.  Locke, Edgar, and TERRA have finally met Sabin.  And now they are on their way to wherever it is they are going next.  I have gotten to the part of the game where they introduce Espers, but I don't remember much of it other than killing a city's residents by poisoning the water, and the weird train.  Anyway, I know that the party is about to split up.  That's about it.

I got a confirmation Email from Square Enix on the games I bought in their big Thanksgiving Sale.  They should arrive soon.  The last time I checked, everything was in Minnesota.  I think that's where they keep the stock though, since it's somewhat central for the U.S. and Canada (don't quote me, because I don't actually know).

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 155: A variety of games played to day!

I guess today was a nice day gaming-wise.  I played some Fallout 3 this morning, then Birth By Sleep in the afternoon, and Final Fantasy VI this evening.  And now I am writing about all of that, and I hope I can it mostly finished before it becomes tomorrow.

So, in Fallout 3 today, I got all the way to the GNR building, and then I died.  But luckily the autosave sent me really close to where I died, so I don't have a lot of back tracking to do.  I will just have to play it safer and not go in there wielding a Power Fist.  I got too happy with it and didn't notice I was running low on HP until I was dead.

In Birth By Sleep, I finally won a game on the Command Board.  I defeated Aqua and Ventus.  Now I am going to go up against Cinderella and hopefully win against her in the first try.  As for the story, I went and found all of the treasure chests at the place Yen Sid resides.  Now, I am not sure where to go.  I was so happy with winning on the command board that I was just clicking away when I should have been reading the text speak.

And finally in Final Fantasy VI, I ended up not completely starting over.  Rather, I kept TERRA as TERRA, and went with it.  Maybe there's an item somewhere in the game that allows me to change character names.  Here's hoping for a Namingway Card.  Anyway, I bought the items I wanted at the Figaro Palace, and now I am South Figaro.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 154: What to mention in a Gaming Blog.

First, I'd like to mention a few things that I have learned after having this gaming blog going for the last five months.  People really like it when you mention the following video games:

Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto IV
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

There are others, but these three are the big games to get your gaming blog a lot of attention.  Also, it helps if you talk about newer games.  Yes, there will always be love for the PS1 generation of Final Fantasy games, but if you don't mention the newer ones once in a while, don't expect as many views.  Also, it is perfectly okay to take a day off from posting (especially if you advertise that it will be updated daily), though people like it more if they have advanced warning.  I have received messages asking if I was okay, if my Internet was fine, everything, just because I missed a day.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is that I hope if there is anyone interested in starting a gaming blog, that they enjoy everything about it.  And don't do it for the money.  It comes across in your entries, just like any other feeling.  If your sad when you post, your readers will know by the typing style.  I'm not saying that it's a bad thing to post your feelings.  I post aggravated a lot, especially when that aggravation is caused by a game I'm playing.  But your greed is probably the one "feeling" that I don't suggest you write with.

Now that that's done...

Today I started a game file for Final Fantasy VI.  And I have already done it completely wrong.  First off, I have Terra as TERRA.  This bugs me so much, because when I am reading text and a Pokémon or character do something, I will in my head say, "What are you doing, TERRA!" or "PIKACHU used THUNDER WAVE."  Like I am screaming at them or something. When I named Locke, Edgar, and Sabin, I named them Locke, Edgar, and Sabin.  But now it just looks out of place having Locke, Edgar, and TERRA in a battle against Leafers and Dark Winds.

Not only that, but I forgot to purchase the tools Edgar can use at the shop before the Desert Castle sunk under the sand.  Which while it is still manageable to win in battle, it's not as much variety, and not as much fun.  I am planning on starting over tomorrow.

I also continued the file of Birth By Sleep today.  I even completed the bit over at Snow White's world.  Now Terra is on his way back to wherever he came from to do whatever it is he needs to do.  You can really tell how much I am paying attention to the story.  I am just too hung up on how I still haven't won any of the Command Board games I have played.  I have access to two boards now, but I am determined to win at the first one with Ventus and Aqua before moving on to the one with Cinderella.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 153: A winner has been chosen.

I played a little Fallout 3 today.  Not much, because it was just a travelling game session.  I am on my way to the GNR building.  But then I took a detour in the metro tunnels and now I don't know where I am at.  All I know is that there were raiders shooting at me as soon as I exited the tunnels.  Now I am once again overencumbered and I have to decide what I should get rid of to lose the extra six pounds of weight I am carrying.

I carry my PSP around with me wherever I go, but lately all I do is use it as a flashlight while I walk through the house.  I just haven't had the motivation to continue Birth By Sleep.

I did some real life gaming this evening.  It doesn't really have much to do with the challenge and this blog, but it was important to me at the time.  I played billiards with my brother today.  And I didn't too bad.  I did lose overall, with a final score of 8-3.  Though the final results don't reflect how I play within each game, I managed to get to the final ball every time.  I play best at the beginning of a game.  I can almost clear the table, but then when it comes down to the last ball, I choke and become unable to play well.

However, I was very proud of how I did in the last game.  I was down to the 8-ball, and my brother had three balls left on the table.  I had one of my brother's balls between the cue ball and the 8-ball, but otherwise it would be a simple tap in order to get it in the pocket.  I had no choice but to jump over the obstacle.  And I managed to clear the jump, knock the 8-ball in and claim the win.  But in the end, I lost 8 of the 11 games we played.  It was still fun!

Well, tomorrow I am starting a playthrough of a Final Fantasy game.  I asked some Skype friends indirectly what I should play.  I had them choose a number between 1 and 13.  The result is that I will play Final Fantasy VI.  And between playing Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy VI, I will try to find time to train for the tournament.  Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 152: Aggravation

I am getting closer to finishing Tomb Raider.  I can't wait to be done with it, because I don't really like not being able to use the analog sticks for controller characters.  Especially when you spending the majority of the game running from place to place.  Using the directional buttons is just stupid.  Granted, controllers probably didn't have analog sticks back when the game came out, so I guess it's understandable.  That still doesn't mean I have to like it.

Anyway, I finished Palace Midas.  It took more than one hour, and I only found one secret.  At this point, I just want to finish the game.  As I look back on my previous attempts at playing Tomb Raider, I don't remember what comes after the part that I am currently at.  This is usually where I stop playing the game.  Before I would get bored with it, or aggravated that I have so much trouble get to the end of this level.  Either way, once I pass this point, I am playing blind.  And that is something I don't want to do.  With just over thirty days left in this challenge, I want to finish as many games as possible.  I had actually planned on starting a playthrough of a Final Fantasy game on December 1, 2013.  But I am not sure I will be able to juggle both Tomb Raider and a Final Fantasy game at the same time.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games play!

Day 150 and 151: Turkey Day and Confusion?

I spent a nice, quiet day at home today.  Gaming was not something I did a lot of today, as I had a couple things I had to that took priority.  The first being to type up the article for the interview I made for EnixOrigin's main site.  The other being a project of making banner images for TFF.  But it wasn't all work and no play.  I did some gaming.

I played the Command Board in Birth By Sleep.  I have played quite a few games of it, and I still haven't won once.  After that, I started the bit over on Snow White's planet.

I just realized that I never posted an entry yesterday.  I know why now.  I was sleeping through most of it after I got home from work.  I didn't play anything that day anyway.  I mean, I slept until my brother came home from his job, and then I went back to sleep and didn't wake up until much later.  I was just super tired.  I'm sorry.  I know I've gone a couple days without posting before, but I normally make it a point to remember to mention it or write it down so I don't forget.

I blame this cold weather.  It has me thinking wonky.  Well, before I forget to save this, I'll just end it now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 149: Wrapped up in blankets and playing all day!

Today I completed the second chapter of the Wasteland Survival Guide in Fallout 3.  And while I was working on that, I escorted that Cherry character to Rivet City.  The weird thing was, when I went back to Dukov's Place, she was there.  How did she get there before I did?  I mean, yeah, I walked the entire way back.  But if she was so adamant about going to Rivet City, why did she go back to Dukov's?  Oh well.  I read that she is possibly needed for a quest.  I just completed that one part before the actual quest began.

And then in Birth By Sleep, I completed the Cinderella world.  Actually, I should say completed it.  After all, I will probably be going back there at some time.  Anyway, I defeated the boss that was controlling the instruments.  And now I am in outer space waiting to go to the next world.

I also practiced some today for the osu! Tournament.  The registration deadline has been shortened due to the amount of participants.  So, if you are still considering joining, you have until November 30, 2013 to enter.  There are now 100 players in the Expert tournament, which is why the deadline has been moved up.  Both the Beginner and Intermediate Tournament don't even have 1/10th that amount.  Anyway, I need to start practicing more each day if I am going to have any sort of chance.

Well, that's all from me.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 148: Writing in places other than here?

Unfortunately, I didn't play video games much today.  I did do something gaming related though, and that's what this entry will focus on.  But first, the actual gaming I did takes priority.

I played Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep today.  But, only for about ten minutes.  Enough time to enter Cinderella's world, watch the cutscene, fight a few Unversed, and then Save the Game.  I liked what I played.  That should count for something, right?

Anyway, the main thing I did today was write an article reviewing one of the new songs that is featured in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.  The full article can be read by going over to http://www.enixorigin.com, where I am the newest site staff member.  I got the acceptance shortly after midnight this morning (I was awake until 3am this morning).  Anyway, I wanted to start off with writing for the site on the right foot, so I spent several hours writing and re-writing the article.  It's only been public for a couple hours.

More importantly, here's the link for you to go and read it! http://www.enixorigin.com/new-lightning-returns-song/

Well, that's all for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 147: Do you want a game?

So over on TFF, they are running a contest for a free iOS copy of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.  Here's a bit about the contest for all those interested.

Courtesy of Square Enix Community and the fine team over at Square Enix DLG, we've got a free copy of FINAL FANTASY IV: The After Years for iOS at our disposal to give away upon launch later this month! For details and rules of entry, check below the jump.

Though FINAL FANTASY IV: The After Years has graced the Wii eShop (episodic, 2009) and the PSP (April 2011, as part of FINAL FANTASY IV: The Complete Collection) platforms already, it has yet to see a mobile release outside of Japan. This updated release will feature the same 3D style as FINAL FANTASY IV on the DS, repurposed for the iOS and Android platforms.
In order to win your copy of The After Years on iOS, all you need to do is post in this thread telling us two things:

Users found manipulating the giveaway via multiple accounts will have all accounts disqualified, and duplicate accounts deleted as per forum regulations.
Anyway, the time for entering the contest is quickly coming to a close.  To enter, click here.  And really, this is a great opportunity to get a game for free.  It's not every day that Final Fantasy games are offered for free.  If any of my readers win, be sure to leave a comment telling me if you like the game or not.  I don't have any way to play the game, so I'm missing out.

Moving on...

I played Fallout 3 all day today.  I completed a lot of sidequests, and got my character up to Level 7 (or was it 6, maybe 8).  All of his skills are at least 25 or more.  The last thing I did was complete the Big Trouble in Big Town quest.  I think after I post this entry I may go back to playing Fallout 3.

So, it looks like Korea will be taking on the United Kingdom and Taiwan is up against Poland in the semi-finals of the 2013 Osu! World Cup.  The quarter-final matches were so great to watch!

Well, that's all from me for now.  Remember to enter that contest!  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 146: A Terra-ble time.

The game that kept my interest today was Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.  I was working on the Sleeping Beauty world today.  The battles are very fast-paced.  I had some trouble at first with using the directional buttons to change what special attacks and spells I wanted to use.  I sometimes used Potions when I didn't need to.  Other than that, it was fine.  I like the sticker book, and how you can meld two abilities together to make a whole new ability.

I guess the story is okay, too.  I am still getting acquainted with people that aren't Sora, so everything seems like it's not a Kingdom Hearts game.  It just feels weird, playing as Terra.

I also played some Fallout 3 today.  I am working on a few side quests to gain experience and raise my Level.  Right now, I am at Level 4, and I just finished the quest at Arefu.

And I practiced some more for the Osu! tournament.  There are now 5 players in my category, so the pressure to do well is increasing.  There's still more than two weeks before sign-ups close, so feel free to join!

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 145: To Bomb or not to Bomb

One of the biggest decisions I always have trouble with when I play Fallout 3 is to either blow up Megaton, or keep it safe.  Normally I go for saving the city, but I always wonder what if I were to be mean and blow it all up.  My moral compass is just so strong that I can't do it.  I guess the descriptions online will suffice.

Anyway, I didn't get around to playing Final Fantasy IX today; because I was playing Fallout 3 and Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy.  I am having a slow time of Fallout 3, because I have about 30 pounds of extra weight I'm carrying.  I want to sell some of it, but the store isn't open yet.  And I can do things before it opens to help reduce the amount.  I have a lot of scrap metal I can give to Walter now that I finished fixing the leaking pipes.

And in Duodecim, I began journeying as Vaan.  I learned that I shouldn't go up against the Kuja Maniken after I have already fought 4 battles in a 5-battle chain.  I will lose, every time.  I like battling as Vaan way more than Lightning.  Maybe because I have spent hundreds of hours playing as Vaan in Final Fantasy XII, compared to the tens as Lightning.  Anyway, I really like how it's giving a different viewpoint as well as the one I'm fighting as.  And how some of the characters are on a different side than in the first game is neat as well.  Especially with Cloud and Terra.  Well, maybe Terra, I don't know about her.

The new monthly competition in Osu! has started.  I have gone through all 6 maps for osu!mania, and I am currently in 12th Place after only one full run of the maps.  And I didn't know about this until a couple days ago, but there is a leader board for those who gained the most points on maps.  And I am on it!  I currently rank #708 in highest score.  I am still practicing for the tournament, but I have taken a little break on the tournament maps for right now.  I don't want to become bored with them.

Tomorrow I am going to make another attempt at playing Final Fantasy IX.  But since the osu! World Cup is having matches tomorrow (Top 8), I will be watching that as well.  And with that, we have come to the end of another entry.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 144: Duodecim initial thoughts

The only gaming I did today was when I was waiting today.  Waiting for the newspapers to show up.  Waiting for someone to come to the office so I could get my check.  Just waiting.  And the game I played while I was doing all this waiting was Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.  This entry will about my thoughts on what I've played so far.

I like how there's a World Map.  I don't like having to play as Lightning.  I like the Assist thing they added to the game.  I don't like how Kain is a stupid jerk face and attacked Bartz.  I like how I don't get punished for going after every treasure chest.

And that's pretty much it.  I am stuck at the battle against Kain.  He's so tough, and Lightning is so weak.  Why couldn't I play as someone else instead of stupid Lightning.  Just because she's the mascot of the franchise right now, I shouldn't be forced to play as her in every game.

In other news, I am seriously considering pre-ordering Lightning Returns.  And the HD version of Final Fantasy X/X-2.  Yes, I have already have the PS2 versions of X and X-2, but it would still be nice to have this new version.  I want to finally experience the Dark Aeons and Final Mission and stuff the North American audience didn't get to see.  And getting Lightning Returns just makes sense because I have the first two games.  Why not complete the collection?

I have a wireless mouse now for my computer.  I will be getting used to it in preparation for the Osu! tournament.  And it will take a lot of getting used to.  It's smaller than my old mouse.  But I have a few weeks yet before the tournament, so there's plenty of time.  And if it doesn't work out, I always have my other mouse.

Well, that's all for this entry.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Days 142 and 143: Slumber

I had planned on post an entry yesterday, but I fell asleep.  I guess all the weirdness in my sleep pattern finally caught up with me, and conked out on the couch by the fire.  And then when I woke up, it was 7am and I just said that I'd just post one this evening to make up for it.

So, yesterday I worked some more on Tomb Raider, I am at Midas Palace right now.  I have one of the lead bars needed to progress to the next area.  I hate this area, because I always get lost.  I remember back when I first reached this area, I found it so funny to stand up on Midas' hand, and be turned to gold.  The sad thing is, I thought that first time it happened that I was meant to stand on the hand.  And I learned quickly that I was not supposed to do that.

I also sent a message to the Osu! tournament organizer about my recent rank improvement.  And I am clear to compete in the Beginner Tournament despite having a rank that would qualify me in the Advanced Tournament.  This is great, because I'd have no chance at all if I had to compete at the Advanced level.  I haven't had any training sessions with my training partner at all this week.  And now that there are 4 players competing in the Beginner Tournament, there's going to be more pressure in playing well.  Anyway, the deadline for signing up is still December 8, 2013; so there's a chance to have even more people join.

Now for today.  Today I started yet another Fallout 3 Game file.  I am horrible with keeping up a single file of Bethesda games.  They are just so good at the beginning when I am making my character how I want it to be, but then actually going forth into the world with the character is not something I feel like doing.  So, I need to be committed with my choices and finish the main story of this game.

In Final Fantasy XIII-2, I had to go online and look up information on Wild Artefact locations, because I couldn't advance.  But now I have gotten a different timeline for Academia.  And then I mastered all of the Brain Blast questions...with some help.  The questions were mostly easy for me to answer.  I didn't like the "Red or Black" and "Odd or Even" questions.  And how was I supposed to know about some obscure person in a time that I haven't learned about.  I think the game was expecting you to do these things multiple times to get all of the correct answers.  Well, I had no time for that, and so I looked online for the answers to some of them.

I cleared another stage of the chapter in Dissidia Final Fantasy after Cosmos "dies".  It took some luck (well, a lot of luck), but I am now at the stage where there is an boss enemy and the insignia.  It's the boss that comes after Kefka.  I haven't scanned the area yet to see how it is.  But I do know that there are three enemies blocking me from even advancing two squares.

Well, that's all for this double day entry.  So, for the coming day(s), enjoy the games you play!

Day 141: It's Zi-dawn, not Zi-day-ne.

Today I played a bit of Dissidia Final Fantasy.  While I was at Grandma's, I worked on completing Zidane's Odyssey.  And I am now almost finished with it.  Zidane is one of my favorite characters among all of the characters I've come across in video games.  And his portion of this game is very nice.

I also reached Nipton in Fallout: New Vegas, and I am now Level 6.  I was so surprised when I saw people hanging on the crosses.  Now, I am on the road to Novak.  I recently was in a gun fight with a few gang members, and I managed to deal with them with a single shotgun.  My only problem right now is that I have too much stuff.  I am carrying 302 pounds of stuff, and I can only hold 200.

Finally, I managed to complete the Coliseum portion of Tomb Raider.  It took nearly 40 minutes.  Now, I am at the area where the statue of King Midas is.

Well, that's all for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Michael, aka me3lingual, aka 情郎

Day 140: I Mojave good day!

The one game I played today was Fallout: New Vegas.  And I was starting to have bad memories flash in my mind while playing.  You see, I grew up in Arizona.  And gila monsters were a common sight when I was little.  I was so afraid of them.  Though they are slow and I was never bitten by one, I never really got over it.  Moving to Ohio allowed me to bury this fear.

But now there are creatures in the game that remind me of those days.  And on top of that, they are much bigger, and chase me at high speeds.  Surprisingly, killing the monsters in the game doesn't help.  The only reason I don't just run away from them in the game is because I get experience points.  Doing that in real life won't work, because they are a protected species.

Oh well.  I will just have to deal with it.

It has been suggested to do away with the tournament I am in for Osu!.  Someone said that it would be boring if there is only two people entered.  Registration for the tournament ends on December 8, 2013, and someone is already suggesting to get rid of my category!  So, I responded, saying that instead of trying to get rid of it, the person should use their pull to help advertise and get more people to join.  So far, there hasn't been any response from that person.  But just so you know, the person who suggested it was just another contestant in the tournament (Expert League).

It's people like that show I can't stand.  They think that just because they are so good at something, then other people shouldn't even be given a chance to do it as well.  So what if there are only two people in my category.  That person is probably just afraid of losing against one of the nearly 80 players in his league, that he wants more prizes to be given out for his league.

The prizes are something I haven't mentioned yet.  Well, the winner of the Beginner League gets one month of supporter status, which is so cool!  Faster beatmap downloading times and a special tag for the user.  And for the Expert League, the person who comes in last place gets supporter status as well.

Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 139: Raiding Again

I have made it to the Coliseum in Tomb Raider.  I am almost to the point in the game where I have always become bored with the game and just stopped playing.  But I haven't gotten to the part yet, and I hope I can power through it and finish the game.  I don't even know how long this game is.

Anyway, I had to stop playing because I change the brightness of my screen I have connected to the PS2.  Before I continue playing, I will switch it over to one of the other TVs in the house.  We have nine television sets in the house, but only four get used on a somewhat regular basis.  One of the things you deal with when you live in a house that at one time had five people living in it, and now only two people live there.

In other news, I think I will have to get a new mouse for my computer.  Especially if I am going to have as good a chance at competing in any Osu! tournaments.  My mouse has been acting as if it's not connected all the time, and sometimes will stop scrolling and stuff.  When I play, it will drop the track and make me lose the combo.  I have tried pressing the button harder, thinking that may help, but it isn't.

If I am going to get a new mouse, I will have to do it soon.  That way it will give me enough time to get used to it before the tournament.

Well, that's about it for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 138: Raiding Tombs

I began playing Tomb Raider today.  It is just how I remembered playing it back when I bought it.  It was one of the first games that I bought myself.  I've had it for so long, and yet I never finished it.  Back then, I didn't see the appeal to it, and I found it to be boring.  Now, I still don't see what's so great about it.  Maybe it's just that you are playing as a woman?  Probably.

Anyway, I have gotten through the first two areas.  I know, it's not much, but it's a start.  I didn't want to get bored of the game and not finish it again, so I am pacing myself.  A level or two each day should fine.

And then throughout the day I practiced for the Osu! tournament.  I am slowly getting better at the maps.  If I can just raise the consistency with my scores, I will have a good chance to win.  The advantage I have right now is that I rarely play with mods on.  Yeah, my scores are naturally lower because I don't make the maps more difficult, but most people always play with mods, and then that's the only way they can play.  They find normal play difficult, because everything is always super fast.  My training partner tends to play maps with double speed.  That's good for him overall, but the tournament doesn't allow mods.  That's where I'll excel.

The tournament itself has seen a lot of people applying to participate.  So far, there are 2 in Beginner League, 1 in Intermediate, 8 in Advanced, and 65 in Expert.  I still perform the newest maps to help get more performance points.  Though I technically don't have to, I may ask to be moved up to the Intermediate League because of my ranking.  However, that could prove to be bad, because it means I have to learn 15 new maps.  Maybe I won't.

Well, that's all for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 137: Another Day Off

I didn't get home from working until 2:30pm, and then after that I was asleep until after 7pm.  I didn't get any gaming done today.

However, I am planning on starting Tomb Raider tomorrow.  It is a game that I haven't ever finished, despite owning the game nearly ten years.

And that's about it for today.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 136: Fallout: New Vegas - Initial thoughts

Okay, so I started playing Fallout: New Vegas today.  It's okay so far.  I had to get rid of my save file of Ni No Kuni in order to start it, but I didn't feel bad because I hadn't played it in months.  Anyway, it is very orange.  I had to change the color of the status stuff on the bottom of the screen in order to make the game seem less orange.  I like the story so far.  I haven't met any children in the game, which was something you have thrown at you in Fallout 3.  And at the price I paid for it, it was a good deal.

I had another osu! training session today.  I am getting better.  Not much better, but better.  After that was over, I went and played some of the newest maps that were added just for fun.  And since they didn't have a lot of plays on them, I earned performance points and raised my rank.  So now, instead of #307,224, I am now ranked #207,211.  And it was because of a few songs.  I fully expect to lose what performance points I have when the songs I earned them on get played more.  I just wasn't expecting there to be a jump of this size.

The plan for tomorrow is to bring either my DS or PSP with me to work just in case I have nothing to do and have to wait for stuff.  Then once I get home, I will probably play something on a console.  Then in the evening, it will be more osu! tournament training.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 135: Counting Down...

After this entry, there will only be 49 days left in the year.  This also means that I only have 49 days to finish the challenge, or get as close to completion as possible.  Either way, it also means that this blog will be finished in 49 days.  And that's probably worse than not completing the challenge.

Anyway...

Today I continued the main storyline of Fallout 3.  I am now on my way to Rivet City, which is someplace I have never been to in my previous attempts at playing this game.

And I also completed a few more missions in Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core.  I haven't continued its main story in a few days now.

And finally, I had my first training session with a fellow participant in the Osu! Challengers Beginners League Tournament.  I learned that even if there are only two people in the Beginner's League, I will still have my work cut out for me if I am going to win.  During our training, I lost every time I think.  I may have won once.  I will have to keep practicing if I am going to win.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 134: They don't match! Go Fish!

Okay, let's say you buy a video game.  On your home, you are looking at the case and the manual (if it comes with a manual - stupid green initiative) and you are imagining the main character.  How he battles, walks, interacts with others.  But most importantly, the way he talks.  You finally get the game home and you turn it on.  The main character opens his mouth, and it is NOTHING like how you imagined it.

Well, that is how it is with me and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core.  Zack's voice is nothing like how I imagined it.  I was expecting a deeper voice with some power to it.  And I got a boyish voice instead.  If I hadn't been sitting down, I probably would have fallen from the shock of disappointment.

Oh well, I guess I have to live with it.  I can't return a video game because the main character's voice doesn't match the way he looks.

I am entering an osu!standard tournament!  Here's a link with the information:

Osu! Challengers Tournament

Anyway, we really need more people to apply for participation, especially in the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels.  There's also an Expert level, and there have been 26 entrants to sign up.  The level I am in (Beginner) only has two entrants, me and someone else.  So, please, sign up and play Osu! with us.

And with that, we have come to the end of this entry.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 133: A little bit of a lot

This will be a quick post because I didn't really play enough of any one game to go into a lot of detail about anything.

I played Fallout 3, but then the game randomly was sent back to the Home Screen.

I began Terra's story in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.  I am not sure I like the game, but I do like the mini game that reminds me of Fortune Street.

In Crisis Core, Zack fought a bunch of enemies from Wutai.

Oh, and I got my half-million GTA$ that they were giving out to every online player in October.

That's pretty much it.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 132: Connecting the Device

First, I will update you on the recent matches at the Osu! World Cup.

  • Korea - 4 vs. Norway - 0
  • Sweden - 4 vs. Phillipines - 3
  • Latvia - 4 vs. New Zealand - 0
  • Germany - 4 vs. Australia - 0
  • China - 3 vs. Austria - 4
  • Taiwan - 4 vs. Hong Kong - 0
  • Japan - 4 vs. United Kingdom - 0
  • Korea - 4 vs. France - 1
  • Norway - 4 vs. Chile - 1
  • Austria - 4 vs. Phillipines - 0
  • Argentina - 4 vs. Singapore - 0
  • Thailand - 4 vs. Netherlands - 1
  • Hong Kong - 4 vs. Venezuela - 0
  • Russia - 4 vs. Estonia - 0
  • United States - 4 vs. Latvia - 1
  • Brazil - 4 vs. Bulgaria - 0
  • Poland - 4 vs. Finland - 0

I am really good at guessing who is going to win the matches.  So far, I have earned 1,950 points out of 2,500 in the little side game that goes along with the actual matches.  There were a few technical problems today that delayed some matches, and two were even postponed.  Anyway, if everything gets taken care of with the program, I expect another full day of matches to keep me entertained.

While I was waiting for the matches to start, I would play Dissidia Final Fantasy.  I managed to finish Cecil's, Tidus's, and Firion's Odysseys.  Rather than move on to one of the other characters' Odysseys, I felt brave and began to challenge the next stage of the game.  This is when Cosmos "dies" and the world becomes filled with darkness, and it is up to the heroes to save it (I think).  I mean, it doesn't seem like it was saved because there is a sequel.  But anyway, I chose to do Chapter 1 with Tidus.  His character is one I feel most comfortable with using in the battles compared to Firion, Cecil, and Cloud.

I finally figured out how to connect my PSP with PSN, so now I can download games for the PSP.  But you can be assured that I won't be buying any games for it.  Because then it adds even more to the list.  Speaking of which, my copy of Fallout: New Vegas should be here in the next few days.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Michael, aka me3lingual, aka 情郎

Day 131: I hate you, Cecil! That's why I never finished your game!

My PSP arrived today in the mail.  And the first game I am playing with it is Dissidia: Final Fantasy.  I tried them all to make sure they work, but Dissidia is the one I was looking forward to playing the most after reading the manuals.  I have already finished the Cloud's bit of the story.  The difficulty was only 1-Star, and since I am new to the game I figured I'd start out simple.  And I didn't have any problems with it.  Even the battle against Sephiroth was easy.

And then I moved on to Cecil's story.  Though it is also a 1-Star difficulty, it feels like 6-Stars.  I have had nothing but difficult battles.  I gave up after fighting fake Sephiroth.  I tried over and over, which was really bad, because it lowers my Story Points for the level each time I retry.  In the end, I gave up and took a Destiny Point deduction, which totally killed the mood.  So I ended up not saving and have to do all of Cecil's story over, I think.  If you had been within 100 feet of my house, you probably would have heard me yelling something along the lines of "Cecil, I hate you!  You suck!  You're the reason I never finished Final Fantasy IV!  No one likes you!" or "Sephiroth you jerk!  Stop hitting me, you stupid meanie!  You are the reason why I never finished Final Fantasy VII!  I hope you die!"  You know, normal rage phrases like that.

As for the other games, I have played them all enough to get to the first Save Point.  Crisis Core seems fun, as does Dissidia 012 (and why wouldn't it).  Birth by Sleep I am not sure about.  That one will have to wait until I get further along in Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix before I take more of an interest right now.

In other gaming news, the Osu! World Cup started today.  I managed to watch every match except the first one, which was Taiwan against Indonesia.  Here's a rundown of the results so far:
Taiwan - 4 vs. Indonesia - 1
Poland - 4 vs. Russia - 0
Finland - 4 vs. Estonia - 0
Germany - 4 vs. Brazil - 1
United Kingdom - 4 vs. Belgium - 1
Argentina - 2 vs. Netherlands - 4
Indonesia - 4 vs. Venezuela - 0
Japan - 4 vs. Canada - 1
So far, there has been one upset; and that was where Argentina lost to the Netherlands.  As for the little betting game the game has going on, I currently have 600 of 800 points possible.  The United States doesn't play until tomorrow afternoon, and I am looking forward to watching the watch.  Until that time comes, I will be playing Dissidia and watching the other matches.  Well, that's all from me.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 130: What's the point if the player isn't here?

Because I am feeling really sore from work today, I will be copying and pasting a portion of my personal life blog here in this gaming blog.  It is on the subject of the PSP games I ordered.  But first, I will mention that I played a few more of the repetitive games in Atari Anthology.  I marked them off, and not the total is 49 games on the list that have been completed.

Anyway, here's the bulk of my day in the gaming I do.

So, I guess you can say that I called it. I received the PSP games today, but not the actual PSP. And not because it couldn't fit in the mailbox or something like that. No, it was sent to Proctorville, Ohio. I guess the seller put the wrong zip code on it, or wrote it so badly that the sorting machine sent it to the 45669 pile instead of the 45660 pile. Luckily, there is no Conaway Road or anything remotely close to it in Proctorville, Ohio. If there had been, I think I would be out $90 and some lucky person would have a slightly used PSP and copy of Birth by Sleep.

I was so worried that I called the Proctorville post office this afternoon. The postmaster there noticed it and said that it was on it's way and that he even noticed the package today. This made me feel so relieved. Now my PSP is back in Columbus being sorted once again. I really hope that this was simply a glitch with the postal service's sorting machine and not something caused by the seller. I won't hesitate to leave a less-than-perfect feedback if the seller used illegible handwriting.

So, I read the manuals of the two Dissidia games and Crisis Core instead of getting to play them today. They seem like a lot of fun in the manuals. I think I may break and watch more gameplay of it on YouTube. It really sucks having them in my possession and not be able to do anything with them.

Oh well. If I'm lucky, the PSP will be here tomorrow and I will have something else to play.

Well, that's all from me for today.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 129: Old School

I played about a dozen games on Atari Anthology today.  And since they were repetitive, I marked them off the list.  This brings the total of completed games to forty-two.  That's 13.2% of the list completed.

And then I also played Final Fantasy XIII-2 as well.  The story is still pretty confusing for me.  All the bouncing back and forth between the times isn't making it easy for me to know what's actually going on.  All I know is that Noel and Serah are Level 32 everything, and I have used the same three monsters for most of the game.  I use Cait Sith for healing, the electric bomb for magic, and a machine-creature for physical attacking.  I have probably 25-30 other monsters I can use, but those three are my favorites.  Among my horde of monsters are three differently-colored chocobos.  I have Yellow, Purple, and Green.

As for where I am at story-wise, I gained access to the big computer building in 200 A.F.  I had to then leave the place because I need something that is located in some other time.  And that is something I don't like.  If I need something for a particular time, then it should be in the time I'm at.

Another thing, not specifically related to the game, but rather the whole time-traveling aspect in general.  If you are time traveling, why would you be going to different locations?  My thoughts on this would be if I wanted to go back in time to when the Great Wall was being built, I would have to first take the time machine to China, and then use the time machine to go back in time.  I couldn't just go and use it here in Ohio and somehow end up in China.  If I did use it in Ohio, I would go back to the time when the Great Wall was being built, but I'd be in Ohio.  And in order to see it, I'd have to go from Ohio to China, and that would take a long time.

To bring this back to Final Fantasy XIII-2, Noel and Serah shouldn't be able to go to different places by using the time thing.  They are going to places located all over Pulse and Cocoon, in different times.  It should one or the other.  A time gate in New Bodhum should only let you go to other times in New Bodhum, you shouldn't have access to Paddra or Yashcas Massif.

Well, I should stop ranting.  And so, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 128: Locking the doors.

Today's main game was  Kingdom Hearts.  I completed a few areas today.  First, I finished Olympus Coliseum.  After that, I went Deep Jungle or whatever the Tarzan level is called and locked that place all nice and good.  And then I locked up Traverse Town.  Sora, Donald, and Goofy are at Level 20-ish.  I think Donald is at Level 19.  Anyway, the group has learned the Red Trinity.  And I am finding puppies left and right.  Which is really good, because no one should lock puppies up in treasure chests.  That's just cruel.

I earned a couple more trophies for the game as well.

Other than that, I have been having the normal trouble of choosing what else to play.  I mean Kingdom Hearts is a good game and all, but it can get boring after a while.  As much as I want to say focus on one at a time and play until I finish it, I know that I will just burn myself out of playing the game altogether if I do that.  So, I have been trying to decide what to play as well as Kingdom Hearts.  I think it is time for another Atari Anthology day to get a bunch of quick games out of the way.

Yeah, that can be the plan.  Anyway, that's all for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 127: Episode I done!

I completed the first bit of stuff at Wonderland in Kingdom Hearts today.  Again, I was pleased at the music and the new color scheme of the boss.  I then earned a couple trophies on PSN, one for locking the door, and another for completing the Gummi Ship route.  I also started over at Olympus Coliseum and fought in the games.  I defeated Cloud as well.  I saved after the battle, so I am ready to take on Cerberus whenever I start playing again.

And some big news.  I finally finished Xenosaga Episode I!  It only took one attempt today.  I made sure that everything that could be useful to the party was used on the party.  Defend stuff, Quick, all of it.  The party survived two Dark Omen attacks!  When I saw that Sophie Peithos was down to only 2,700 HP, that was when I went up a gear from holding back and playing defensive to going all out and not caring who got hurt in the process.

And then the final cutscenes!  Oh, all of the feels right there!  I was like, KOS-MOS is seriously going to sacrifice herself?!  And then I remembered that wasn't going to happen because she is in the second game.  But still, the feels!

My PSP stuff is all on its way.  I should start receiving everything by the end of the week.  I am excited to see how a PSP works.  Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 126: 5-Star Rating

I was up until almost 5am this morning playing Final Fantasy XIII.  But it was all worth it.  I finally finished the game!  After having the game longer than owning a PS3, I finally did it!  Before I even ordered the PS3, I bought the last copy Wal-Mart had of the game.  It, along with Catherine, were the main reasons I bought the PS3.  Besides, I couldn't justify buying PS3 games if I had no intention of actually getting a PS3 at some point.

Anyway, I beat the game.  Using Snow, Hope, and Fang, I managed to get a 5-Star Rating on the final battle and earn the Superstar trophy.  And now, it is officially marked off of the list.

I worked some more on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.  As much as I played, I didn't get a lot accomplished.  I mainly just traveled around because I wasn't able to fast travel to where I needed to go.

And now I am working on Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix.  I am about to leave Traverse Town with Donald and Goofy, and make my way to worlds unknown.  Well, I know what worlds there are, but at this moment Sora doesn't.  Anyway, I like the new battle music.  And how the boss looks so different compared to the one in the original game.

Well, I am off to play some more.  After having stayed up all that time yesterday, I am not tired at all right now.  I will be up awhile.  If you're online, you're more than welcome to hit me up and chat.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 125: Gran Pulse Style

I didn't do a whole lot of gaming until about an hour ago.  I played a few minutes of Pokémon White here and there throughout the day, but nothing like a massive amount in one sitting.  Right now I am at the Desert Resort.  I caught a few new Pokémon, including a Scraggy and Sigilyph.  My Servine will be evolving soon.  It is my main attacker here in the desert.  And Sandile is leveling up nicely, having been equipped with the Exp. Share.

Right now though, I have Final Fantasy XIII on Pause.  I started playing it again on a whim this evening.  I wanted to try and complete the Titan's Trials.  And I did!  My final battle was against 4 Verdelet and a summoned Tonberry.  I had to try a few times in order to win, but I actually won!  Now I am on my way to the Cie'th Stones I haven't completed on the World Map in order to get the experience points needed to take on the final stages of the game.  I want to be ready for Orphan.

I feel really good about the game right now.  As if I will finish it soon.

And I guess I should inform you that I did it once again.  I bought another video game.  Actually, two video games.  And a PSP.  The games I purchased were Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy.  I have been working hard with my online work, so I think I will be able to cover the costs.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 124: Month 4 Review

I totally forgot that yesterday was the end of the month.  I forgot to go back and look at what I did over the past month.  So, I will do that now.

Okay, so last month I finished three games.  And two of them were games I had never played before!  And they were quite long!

Now if only I could finish the game that has been mocking me for so long.

In current game playing news, I completed the third Gym in Pokémon White.  Now, my character is in the construction site/desert thing full of Sandiles.  I went and caught one, because I figured I might need a Ground type in my party for the next Gym.  The only thing I know about the Gym is that it gives out the Bolt Badge.  I assume it is an Electric-type Gym, in which case Ground types will be best.  Especially since my party contains two flying types (Pidove and Woobat).

Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 123: Random Draw

There wasn't a whole lot of gaming done today.  I continued to help my friend get his Platinum trophy for Need for Speed: Most Wanted today.  It was a lot of fun.  Toward the end, a PSN friend of mine joined our game, and made me go from 2nd Place to 3rd Place.  I am not good at racing games at all!

The group stages have been announced for the Osu! World Cup.  The United States is in Group H along with Latvia, Italy, and New Zealand.  The U.S. team is ranked as one of the top seeded teams, so the chance that they'll move on to the Knockout Stage is high.  However, you never can tell.

I explored a little more of Castelia City in Pokémon White while I was waiting around at work today.  Other than that, I played some GTA Online, and earned enough money to buy a garage.  Now I have somewhere to park my car.  Whenever I figure out how to use the ID thing on my car and find it.

Tomorrow I think I will play either Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, or Final Fantasy XIII or XIII-2.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 122: Trophy Hunting

I started the day playing Metal Gear Solid 2.  I am nearly finished with Solid Snake's part of the game.  After that, I downloaded the new maps for Osu!.  I also played some multiplayer.

After that, I worked on Pokémon White.  I leveled up some of my party.  I exchanged Timburr for Woobat.

The main game I played today was Need for Speed: Most Wanted.  A friend asked for my help in getting a few trophies in multiplayer.  I was happy to help.  However, I didn't have the latest update of the game.  And for some reason, it takes forever for NFS:MW updates to download.  I had to wait most of the day for it to finish.  The worst part was that power went out while it was downloading the first time.  I had to start all over and do it again.

Anyway, we played for a while.  We each earned a few trophies.

Well, I have work in the morning, and so I am going to end this here for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 121: Overwhelmed

Today was spent wishing that I could play fifty games at once.  That seems to be the only way I can finish the challenge.  I have so many games I am working on, and lots more that I haven't even started.  And then with real life stuff as well, it's like there just isn't any chance of completing this thing.

I try to stay positive and laid back about the whole thing, playing it off as if I don't mind knowing that I won't finish the challenge, but you have to understand that I rarely start something that I can't finish.  So, knowing that I won't be able to complete this challenge upsets me.  And when you get a game that no matter how hard I try to finish like Xenosaga Episode I, it frustrates me to no end.  That and Final Fantasy XIII are at the top of my list of games that I wouldn't mind using as target practice or frisbees.

And it doesn't help that the majority of the games I have take so long to finish.  Like, why do I like RPGs so much!?  Yeah, they have great stories and stuff, but they aren't really made for something like this challenge.

Anyway, tomorrow.  Tomorrow I am going to try my best to play as much as possible.  I don't have anything going on that I know of, so I will aim for finishing something.

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Michael, aka me3lingual, aka 情郎

Day 120: Where does he put it all?

I spent a huge portion of the day playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.  While I was playing and leveling up, a though crossed my mind.  Where does my character put all of the things he carries?  I mean, other than his bow, quiver, and what equipment he wears, none of it shows.  And considering he has a lot of potions, alchemy supplies, food, and books as well as backup weapons and armor, the backpack needed to carry all of it must be massive.  Especially considering he is carrying 210 pounds with him.  I mean, when a bandit comes up to him demanding he turn over all his gold, my character can't just go and ask the bandit to give him a minute so he can dig it out of his pockets.  You know, maybe that's why the bandit is coming up to him demanding the gold and threatening to kill him.  After all, what threat is someone who is carrying so much stuff that he can't see where he's going?

Right now, my character is in Cheydinhal trying to complete a quest from the Thieves Guild.  I am also part of the Mages Guild now, and already have one recommendation (Bruma) in the bag.  He is currently at Level 4.

Anyway, back to my original point. It isn't just the character in this game that journeys without some sort of luggage.  Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid somehow has guns and hundreds or thousands of rounds of ammunition on his person near the end of the game.  Where does he put that Stinger Missile launcher?  Not to mention the PSG-1, FAMAS, and all of those rations.  And what about the characters from Final Fantasy games?  99 of every item available and yet none of them have some kind of case or bag to hold them.

I would love to see a game where the party has a visible backpack or something containing their belongings.  Something I'd like to see more of is the changing of appearance due to different equipment on the characters.  Bethesda is on top of that.  I wish it would be a part of JRPGs.  It just isn't enough that the weapon changes.  If they allow the weapon to change, then the equipment should also change.

Well, that's all from me.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 119: I am an idiot sometimes.

I learned today that I am able to go back up the elevator in Xenosaga Episode I without having to battle all of those Gnosis again.  That is great news!  It made getting my butt kicked by the final boss not as frustrating.  I tried several times today to win, but still couldn't do it.  Each time I made it to the final fight, but I lost when a sudden Dark Omen attack occurred.  I never had a chance to prepare for the blast.  If I could have guarded, I could probably have won.

I have made it to Castelia City in Pokémon White.  I finally got out of the woods in Pinwheel Forest.  Now, I will challenge the Gym, and hopefully move on quickly.  I am almost to the point where I stopped playing the first time.  As for my Pokémon, I have evolved a couple.  I have Servine now, as well as a Musharna.  There are also that a few should be evolving soon.

And then I spent several hours playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.  I did a couple quests, but nothing pertaining to the main story.  I joined the Thieves Guild.  Right now, my character is only at Level 2 with the Assassin job class.  I really like the experience system in Oblivion compared to that of Skyrim.  I think when I continue playing it (whenever that will be), I will try and work on the main story.

However, I am really wanting to get Xenosaga Episode I finished first.  I just have to be even more defensive than I already am.

Well, that's all from me.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 118: Fragments

I have been collecting fragments in Final Fantasy XIII-2 off and on all day today.  One thing I know about this game is that even though I have spoiled the ending, I still am so surprised at how this story is going to reach the ending.  For instance, I never thought I would be opening up new timelines.  I thought it would just be going from one place to another.  I didn't expect that the game would have the chance to see the effects of my actions throughout the story.

Mog is probably my favorite character in the game.  I just like him so much.  Especially when he gets thrown to fetch the treasure.  And all of the fragments about him are so funny.  Like the one where he talks about how he went up against Lightning and lost.

Anyway, I have I think 23 fragments now.  I have recently unlocked the casino area and a couple others, if that gives you an idea as to my current position in the game.

I also played Osu! today, working on improving my ranks in both the monthly competitions as well as the overall standings.  I saw today that I was knocked off the Taiko competition leaderboard, and I wasranked #40 in osu!mania.  There are still about three weeks to improve my standings in the competitions.  It will be difficult, at least in osu!mania.  There are only two songs in the competition, which means there's only a maximum of two million points possible.  I currently have 1,164,453.  And considering the difficulties of those songs, I was lucky to get that amount.  As for Taiko, there are nine songs, but I don't know how they get so many points.  I don't think I have much of a chance on getting back on that leaderboard.

As for the overall standings, I am currently #11,879 in the world, and #653 in America.  I am still working on going through my library of maps and playing the ones I haven't tried in a long time.  And I still download the newest maps as the become approved and ranked.  I like having first place in a map, even if for only a short time.

Well, that's all the gaming news I have for today.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 117: Dust Collecting

Today I played a little of Final Fantasy XIII-2.  I managed to defeat the flan-thing that Snow is fight when you first get to 300 A.F.  I somehow stuck it out long enough to defeat it.  And it was on the first try as well.  After that, I got two artefacts, and discovered two new times.  And then I discovered yet another new time when I went to the Coliseum.

I think that will be my main game for tomorrow.  I also want to try Xenosaga Episode I once more.  Maybe after these last few days of not thinking about it will allow me to win finally.

I am also starting yet another attempt at finishing the main story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Other than that, I spent the day sleeping.  I really need to try and catch up on my sleep.  Since I am still in the Pinwheel Forest, sleep will be the only thing I catch tonight.  Anyway, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!

Day 116: My Eyes Hurt.

The only gaming I did today was checking to see if my copy of Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded works.  It arrived in the mail today.  When I got home from work, my eyes felt like they wanted to melt, so I slept a long time.  I even answered the phone today and don't remember what I said or who or what the person on the other end was or said.  I was just so tired when I got home.

Anyway, I am done buying video games.  At least for a while.  If all goes well, I will only have to purchase the two newest Final Fantasy games (Lightning Returns and XV) when they are released.  I really hope I win a copy of X/X-2 HD.  It will save me $40.

But until then, I still have so many games I need to play.  Tomorrow should be filled with all sorts of gaming done.  I wish I could say that I have a game I can one shot and play through tomorrow, but I don't think I do.  If I did, I would be more than happy to do it just to get it checked off the list.  Oh well.  I will think of something.

Anyway, the poll for the Talent Competition ends at 3:30pm EDST tomorrow (Friday).  That's give you all about 13 hours to sign up as a member of EnixOrigin forums, and vote for me.  I really hope you vote for me!

Well, that's all from me for now.  So, for the coming day, enjoy the games you play!
